The Serenity Passport by Megan C Hayes PhD

Peace, calm, tranquility, Serenity– something we could all benefit from more of in our lives. Five chapters, 30 “untranslatable words or practices” of all different languages- The Serenity Passport truly takes you on a trip around the world giving descriptions and applicable practices to incorporate more serenity in our lives.

It’s an easy read- one of those “pick up and open to a random page” kind of books- also makes for a great gift 🙂

The Serenity Passport by Megan C Hayes PhD

I have always been fascinated by the idea that each language has words to describe things that sometimes have no direct translation in another language; words that may be unique to that specific language, but the meaning is usually a feeling felt by us all.

The idea of “serenity” may be one word in English, but in The Serenity Passport, Megan C Hayes PhD beautifully illustrates 30 “untranslatable words & practices”, as she states it, from all over the globe, all different languages.

The book is split up into five chapters, each highlighting a different umbrella term of ways in which we can all practice serenity in our lives, with each word placed in one of the five categories. Each word is then defined and discussed, ending with applicable ways in which we can add it into our everyday lives.

Usually, when I feel distracted or overhwhelmed, I’ll pick up this book and choose one random word to apply that day. It also makes for a great gift to a loved one or a friend!

Let me know what your takes on The Serenity Passport are! I’d love to hear what you think 🙂
